The Sail House Tavern celebrated its official opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on 2/13/26. Owners, employees, town officials, and patrons gathered to hear a few words and listen to Ken Richards.
The tavern is in the old VFW building, 109 Middle Street, Fairhaven. The renovated space features a large dining area, which accommodates live music and dancing, and a rebuilt bar area.
Owners, Linda and Howie Plaud, who are experienced restaurant owners, bought the building. The restaurant/tavern is managed by their son, Alex.
“We built this space because we love hosting, bringing people together, and creating a spot where great food, creative drinks, and live entertainment all live under one roof,” Ms. Plaud told the crowd. “This isn’t just a restaurant or bar, it’s a place for community events, local talent, and making memories.”
She also noted that the VFW chapter has been holding meetings there again.
“Everything you touch turns to gold,” said Select Board chairperson, Charlie Murphy to the Plauds.
The Plauds owned the Highlander in Acushnet, and Captain Bonney’s in Rochester.
Howie Plaud said all their businesses are family oriented
“This is my final,” he told the Neighb News. “I hope it’s my Mona Lisa.”
Alex told the Neighb News that they had been open for about three weeks, opting for a soft open before the ribbon cutting. He said they have been busy.
He said the atmosphere is kid friendly and food is classic tavern fare with seafood specialties, burgers, pizza. They will have entertainment almost every day and night.
The Sail House Tavern is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Visit sailhouse-tavern.com.
