Well, I guess summer is done with us, huh?

The good news is, these very cold nights and warm days make for good foliage colors. So, that means it’s time to…well… yeah, right, gas is like a gazillion dollars to fill the tank….forget it.

Closer to home, the annual fire department open house/safety day is this Saturday  (see page 5). That’s always a fun event. If it’s not too windy, they’ll burn a little building Now, who doesn’t like that, right?

I’ve got a pretty handy (if I do say so myself, ahem) little cheat sheet on page 3 for keeping all those ballot questions straight. You can tear it out and take it with  you when you vote.

The Halloween events are starting up! Even the Fairhaven Village Militia is getting into it (see page 7) with a special Evening at the Fort…Haunting at the Fort.

Our cover story is a reminder of all the great history Fairhaven has (see page 12). The Academy Building is not open all the time, so take advantage of the next few Saturdays to see what’s on exhibit there. And, maybe volunteer for one of the groups that keep it all alive.

Speaking of volunteering…see page 18 for a list of openings on committees in both Acushnet and Fairhaven.

We’ve also got a way you can help local immigrant families terrorized by ICE. See page 16 for how you can help. The midterms are less than a month away. Let’s hope the Big Bufoon’s party gets a super smackdown.

The damage to our democracy is already done. The damage to these families is already done. But we can at least show that not everyone is a callous, mean-spirited bigot. There are plenty of people fighting back against the fascism that has taken hold in this country. The most important thing to do right now is vote. As the Big Buffoon says: make it “too big to rig.”

And if you think it doesn’t matter here, then you are missing the signs. We have plenty of book-banners and hateful types among us. They just are a little more savvy about it than the Big Buffoon.

There’s other stuff in here, of course. Thumb through to find it all, and while you do that, be sure to notice who our advertisers are so you can tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News.

And, one more thing. Get your Halloween yard on the list. Yeah, it’s that time.

Until next week… see ya,

Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
