When Concerts at the Point audiences gather on Sunday, 2/22 at 3 p.m., they won’t just be hearing an acclaimed early-music ensemble — they’ll be welcoming back a group that has already made a memorable impression in Westport. RUCKUS, the dynamic New York–based baroque band often described as “the world’s only period-instrument rock band,” returns to Westport Point with a program that turns 18th-century music into something vibrant, rhythmic, and irresistibly alive.
Their program, Strawberry Fields: Handel, Sancho, and English Country Dances, promises to transform the church into something closer to an 18th-century dance hall. At the heart of RUCKUS is a continuo group — the baroque equivalent of a jazz rhythm section — featuring guitars, harpsichord, cello, bassoon, and bass. The musicians combine stylistic authenticity with bold, modern vitality, creating performances critics have praised for both “rough-edged intensity” and lyrical delicacy.
Performed without intermission, the program unfolds as a seamless journey through elegance, wit, and infectious rhythm — music designed not just to be admired, but to move the listener.
The performance takes place at Westport Point United Methodist Church, 1912 Main Road, an acoustically warm and intimate venue that has become a cherished cultural gathering place for the South Coast. Concerts at the Point, now in its 29th season, presents five to six concerts each year and remains a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization sustained by community support.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for students and are available at concertsatthepoint.org or by calling 617-512-5549.
