The two 100+ year old oak trees that have been in the public eye recently, were cut down on 2/27/25 to make room for electrical upgrades to the Millicent Library in Fairhaven.
The plan sparked protests from some residents who asked the Fairhaven Select Board to stop the removal of the trees at its 1/13/25 meeting. A tree hearing in December had some opposition, so the SB had to vote. They voted to approve the removal of the trees (see 1/16/25 issue).
Other ways to bring the new service to the library would have cost more money, argued Eversource and the library.
