The Trustees of the Millicent Library in Fairhaven held a ceremony on 9/24/23, to dedicate the restored sundial to Christopher Bunnell, a long time trustee. Due to the rain the event was held inside, but the weather held up long enough for a few photos.
The sundial had been in storage because it had gotten damaged. It was restored by New
Bedford sculptor Erik Durant.
Several people spoke at the ceremony, recounting the many ways Mr. Bunnell served the town.
Dennis Duval said he taught Mr. Bunnell in Junior High School (back when it was called that), and then served with him as a Library Trustee.
“Of the thousands of students that I had encountered over many years in education I can think of no one who better exemplifies what it means to be a contributing member of our society than Chris Bunnell,” said Mr. Duval, adding that he was a “devoted citizen” of Fairhaven, that he loved deeply.
“ He has left a legacy that his family and friends can be most proud,” said Mr. Duval. “Thank you Chris for being an outstanding role model of what true citizenship and love of community is all about.”
