A quick-moving storm dumped rain and even hail on the region and caused flash floods in some places on Monday afternoon, 8/26/24, around 2 p.m. Channel 10 reported golf-ball size hail in Mattapoisett.
Video and pictures throughout SE Mass. how hail looking like a snowstorm. The dark clouds could be seen approaching, and there was lots of loud thunder, bright lightning, and wind gusts up to 65 MPH; and a 33 MPH gust recorded by the West Island Weather Station (WestIslandWeather.com). Rain poured in sheets in some places. According to ML Baron of WI Weather, rain was in isolated pockets from .25 inch to .60 at Town Beach. Some areas got 2 inches in 20 minutes. Mattapoisett got 1.79”.
