Lt. Col (Retired) Stephen E. Hackett will discuss the military award system at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Military Museum and Veterans Memorial, 1000Cs. Rodney French Blvd, New Bedford.
Lt. Col Hackett will explain how the system came into existence and how changes have taken place.
Anyone with a medal from military service that they cannot identify is encouraged to bring it to the talk so Lt. Col Hackett can help identify it.
Lt. Col Hackett has 28 years of military service, with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s degree from Rhode Island College.
He is a 25-year veteran of Rhode Island’s Camp 12, Rhode Island Sons of Union Veterans and a 40-year life member of the Orders and Medal Society of America.
He spent 28 years in the classroom as a social studies and science teacher.
The program is free to attend, and there is no charge for parking.
This is one of several upcoming talks scheduled for the fall speaker series. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the museum.
