The Thomas Livesey Club in Fairhaven is rebuilding after the fire last year that totally destroyed the building. But members want the public to know that the scholarship program is up and running. The club awards three scholarships, which vary in amount year to year depending on available funds, to area high school students who plan to further their education at a technical school, college, or university. The club’s focus was initially, and still is, athletics and how important that is to young people. But club members also quickly realized that young people furthering their education was also important, according to an email by board member David Darmofal. Despite the fire, the club does not want to miss a year of the scholarship program. Applications are available at high school guidance counselor offices. All students who plan on furthering their education are encouraged to apply. The committee will award scholarships in May.
