Pride Month is Official
I am dismayed to discover that Fairhaven Town Hall does not automatically hang the rainbow banner over the entryway for Pride Month. Not only is Pride Month officially designated by the Commonwealth, hanging the banner sends a clear message of inclusivity to all who enter. Silly me to assume that because it has been done previously it’s how Fairhaven rolls.
The Selectboard wasn’t specifically asked to hang it with the State or American flag or do anything else that should offend anyone’s patriotic pride. Hanging it over the door is an appropriate message to the community in line with what cities and towns do throughout the State.
I am both incensed and insulted that the Selectboard has a) chosen to adhere to a technicality that someone should have requested the banner 60 days in advance b) failed to recognize that the petitioner should have been the Selectboard or Town Hall itself and done something to repair that error and C) that their alternative offering was to hang the flag in 60 days for two hours. Two hours?
What year is it in Fairhaven again? Sometimes I forget. And I know I’m not alone in that.
I ask the Selectboard to reconsider this decision ASAP. They certainly have the power to fix this unfortunate misrepresentation of Fairhaven.
