Vote “Yes” for the Override
Fairhaven. Our Town. A wonderful place to live, educate our children, support our first responders, teachers, public works and town employees.
We often take many of them for granted. When the blizzards come, our DPW employees scramble into service, working long hours, so we can get to work, school and get our bread, milk and lottery tickets. First responders find a way to get to their stations to help those of us in need. It may take too much time for the roads to get cleared to the pavement, but eventually, things are back to normal.
Our teachers, who love their profession, treat our children like their own, insuring a quality education. The school cafeteria staff keep the kids well fed.
Police, fire, and EMT’s rush to the aid of all of us when called upon. Our dog officer is committed to helping animals in need get medical attention which eventually lead to good homes.
Fairhaven has a wonderful library, with professional staff. A senior center offering trips, lunch, movies, and many other amenities for our aging population. The Rec center is a place for children and adults to stay healthy with a fitness area, a gym for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and more. Also there are many activities for infants, grammer school, middle school and high school students. The center also offers help to working parents when school is out and they can drop the kids at the center and be confident they will be will be fed, protected and happy.
The schools offer our children professionals educating and coaching sports, music, art, and a place for budding thespians.
The town is asking for our help to keep these and many other things we depend on, to keep our town a place we can be proud to belong and brag about, with an override. We all know that over the past 18 months groceries, fuel, utilities and many other necessities have increased exponentially. With our votes we can remedy this. Until then it’s up to us to weather this national typhoon and protect our way of life.
Personally, I can’t in good conscience jeopardize any of the aformentioned and other services we enjoy over a mere $2 weekly sacrifice. It’s such a miniscule amount to keep our wonderful town from making cuts that we depend on having.
I’m voting yes for the override and urging my fellow Fairhavenites to do the right thing to get us through this temporary storm.
John Sullivan, Fairhaven
