The Fairhaven Economic Development Committee officially welcomed Hanami Tea House and Lounge, a Japanese tea house and cafe, with a ribbon cutting ceremony in February.
Alyssa Botelho, Fairhaven Community Development Coordinater, noted Fairhaven’s special connection with Japan, with a sister city relationship with Tosashimizu, the village of Manjiro Nakahama, the first Japanese person to live in the US, in Fairhaven in 1843.
“It’s always exciting to open a new business in town,” said Ms. Botelho, and congratulated owner, William Foley, for seeing his vision “come to life.”
Mr. Foley explained that Hanami is a Japanese tea house, and they also serve coffee and desserts, some small cafe food, and hot food.
“We wanted to make sure we have something for everyone here,” he said.
Mr. Foley said he has been part of Fairhaven for a long time, and grew up here.
“I’m so happy to be in Fairhaven and having a business here,” he said.
