We have lots of fun stuff this week, with lots of events coming up, too. Summer is winding down, although you’d never know it by this crazy heat.
The state has announced that the drought has worsened throughout the state (see page 20). Fairhaven’s water restrictions are still voluntary, but, really folks, do you have to water the lawn? I understand about the vegetable garden, and even the flowers, I guess. But the lawn? With sprinklers? Besides, your lawn sticks out like a sore thumb in all its greenery while the rest of us hear crunching when we walk on ours.
This weekend we have a couple of fun events (see page 3). The Teddy Bear Parade and the annual car show at Livesey* Park. And the West Island Regatta, featuring all those little sailboat sis also on Saturday.
Supposedly the weather is going to break, so we should be able to enjoy these outdoor events with a little less heat stroke.
Our cover story is a great one. The Fairhaven Acushnet 12 and under basedball all stars made it to the World Series! How cool is that? Our two little towns beat out a bunch of the big guys. We sent them off in grand style (see page 12) for their trip to Missouri.
As of press time, they have a couple of hard losses and at least one win. I’m sure they’re making us proud by playing their best and being good sports. I hope they are also just having a lot of fun, enjoying the adventure, and learning a little bit about where they are.
We’ll, there’s other stuff in here, of course. But you’ll have to go through and see for yourself.
