Love in Bloom
Dear Frankie,
Spring has sprung, and love is in full bloom at the dog park.
Wherever I look, it seems there is another couple gazing into one another’s eyes, rubbing heads, and wagging their tails in synch. It is heartwarming and, at the same time, heartbreaking.
I used to be one of those dogs, but those days are gone for me. Henry, my partner of years, treats me well, but the days of a gentle nudge, hide and seek, and a knowing smile have passed. When I snuggle against him at night, he pretends he’s asleep and turns over. When I lick his face, he never reciprocates.
I should be grateful that I live with such a nice and upstanding guy. But some days I feel lonely.
Wilma
Dear Wilma,
There’s more to a relationship than being nice. You said those days are gone for you, so I am assuming it wasn’t always like this with Henry.
Often, long-term couples take their partners for granted and get lazy about showing they care.
Why don’t you tell Henry how much you miss the affectionate and caring things he did in the early days of your relationship, and how important they are to you? You can also ask Henry if there is anything he would like you to do to reignite the romance.
If he is as nice and upstanding as you say he is, he should be willing to step to the plate.
Best, Frankie
