Freedom…. Or
Dear Frankie,
My parents are going back to work full-time, and they’ve given me two options for how I can spend my day: either go to doggy daycare or have Harry, our neighbor, come for an hour visit and a walk.
I’m pretty easygoing and like to plan my day based on how I feel. Some days I’m raring to go, and other days all I want to do is snuggle in bed with Sandy, my teddy bear. So I’m not sure I would be a good candidate for a set daycare schedule.
I like Harry, but if he’s only around for an hour a day, I’ll be alone most of the time. What would you do?
Alfie
Dear Alfie,
Before you decide, I think it’s a good idea to try both options and see which one you like better.
Maybe spend your first week splitting your time between daycare and Harry — two days with one, three days with the other. You might find you enjoy the bus ride and socializing with other dogs so much that the schedule is tolerable.
As the lady on TV used to say, “Try it, you might like it. What do you have to lose?”
You might also find that daycare is not for you, and being with Harry full-time is preferable, or vice versa. Once you’ve tried both options, you will know what works best for you.
Best, Frankie
