Who Would’ve Thought?
Dear Frankie,
Alice and I live in the same neighborhood. Over the years, we ran into one another at birthday parties, tag sales, and baseball games and said “Hi” with a nod or wave of a paw.
Recently Alice and I were elected to serve on the advisory board for the dog park. After a few meetings, it was evident that Alice knew a lot about dog park management. I also noticed that Alice had a lovely smile, sweet bark, and silky fur. After the meetings, Alice and I walked home together and had great conversations. Some nights I wished we lived miles away so we could have kept on talking. I now realize my feelings about Alice have become romantic.
I don’t know how Alice feels about me. I’m not sure if I should lay my cards on the table or wait to see if she makes a move in my direction. I know that Alice has dated in the past and, at present, is not seeing anyone.
Ted
Dear Ted,
You might ask whoever told you that Alice isn’t seeing anyone if they know if Alice is interested in you. On your next walk home, you could also tell Alice how much you enjoy talking with her and if she would like to hang out with you sometime. If she declines, I think you have your answer.
If, on the other hand, she says yes, then nail down a time. When you meet her, bring a couple of bones and a ball. It’s always good to have something to eat or a game to play if there is a lull in the conversation. Be sure to compliment Alice on her bark, hair, and smile. Girls like to be flattered.
If there is a second date, you might ask Alice what she thinks about couples who were friends before they became romantic partners. You could also bite the bullet and tell Alice straight out: A) How much you like her, B) How often you think of her, or C) How much she means to you. Then ask her if she feels the same way about you.
Best, Frankie
