This concert begins with a groovy piece by Gabriela Ortiz, one of the foremost composers in Mexico today and one of the most vibrant musicians emerging on the international scene. You can view the biography and list of recordings of Ms. Ortiz on her website (https://gabrielaortiz.com/index.php?idioma=en&p=1)
Next, you will have the pleasure of exploring the talents of NBSO principal cellist Leo Eguchi as he performs in the role of soloist for Leonard Bernstein’s Three Meditations from Mass. Leo has been described as “copiously skilled and confident” (New York Times) with performances that were “ravishing” (New Bedford Standard-Times) and “played with passion and vitality” (Boston Music Intellegencer). Leo has performed extensively across North America, Europe and Asia. More info on Leo may be found at https://www.leoeguchi.com/
The program closes with a piece by one of the greatest opera composers of all time, Giuseppe Verdi. His String Symphony in E Minor is both brooding, fiery, and dark – as well as light, innocent, and playful. Join us for this opera without words!
