Sun., 4/26, from 2–4 p.m., Fairhaven Fairhaven Unitarian Universalist Church, 102 Green St., Fairhaven, MA 02719. Free.
Four local organizations are joining forces to host the first annual Blessing of the Bicycles, a free, family-friendly community bike event.
Presented by Fairhaven UU Church, Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.), Fairhaven Livable Streets, and SouthCoast Places for People, the event will offer free, walk-up bike repair assistance and hands-on skill-building for riders of all ages — no appointment necessary.
Attendees can watch live demonstrations of two essential maintenance skills — how to lube a chain and how to fix a flat tire — and then have time for bike maintenance with guidance from volunteer mechanics on hand.
Information on how to donate used bikes to Youth Opportunities Unlimited’s Community Bike Shop in New Bedford will also be available at the event.
The Blessing of the Bicycles is free, open to the public, and welcoming to all ages and skill levels. Light repairs will be performed on a walk-up basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bike. E-bikes will not be accepted for repair at this event.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council
