Acushnet town officials have been working with cadets from Mass Maritime Academy since last October, resulting in a tabletop exercise, “Winter Storm Cindy,” that simulated a blizzard with prolonged power outage. According to Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher, the town’s emergency response plans were reviewed and will be modified as a result of the exercise.
The cadets are part of the Homeland Security program and the exercise was part of a class they took.
The three-hour training took place on Tuesday, 5/21/19, at the Acushnet Police Department.
School officials also attended to evaluate the students on their presentation.
Fire Chief Gallagher said the exercise was helpful to the department.
“Our emergency plans will be updated based on this exercise,” he said.
