The Fairhaven Recreation Center held its annual All-Abilities Fishing Derby to help everyone get to the water and learn how to fish. About 40 people participated this year, the number undoubtedly driven by the Touch-A-Truck event being held across the street at the same time.
Recreation Director, Bernadette Barreira said Bounty Hunters donated the bait and loaned 12 poles.
“A special thank you also goes to our Fairhaven Harbormaster Tim Cox for his support and assistance throughout the event,” wrote Ms. Barreira on Facebook. “Community partnerships like these help create memorable experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. From pufferfish and sea robins to smiles and laughter, today was a wonderful reminder of what makes our community so special.”
Of course, it was a contest, so… winners were: Most Unique Catch, Max Hurley with a pufferfish; heaviest Fish, Scarlett Benoit, 22 oz sea robin; Kayden Mota, longest fish, 14.5-inch Sea Robin; Jack Tavares, second longest Fish a 13” scup; Reagan Durant, tied for 2nd longest fish, a Sea Robin; Ethan Rego, smallest fish with a 6 oz scup
