Veronica J. (Sergeant) McCarthy, 80, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Paul G. McCarthy and mother of the late Gregory P. McCarthy.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Wanda (Ozga) Sergeant. Ronnie graduated from Fairhaven High School and worked as a bank teller at various area institutions until her retirement. She was known for her love of cooking and enjoyed shopping and travel in her leisure time.
She is survived by her sister Jacqueline Hobson (Robert) of Fairhaven, her niece Holly Lemieux (John) of Fairhaven, nephew Sean Ouimet of Santiago, California, nephew Roger Ouimet of Cary, North Carolina, and her dear friend, Jeanne Kelley of Fall River.
In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated and a graveside service will be held Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 12PM in the Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. Arrangements were by the Fairhaven Funeral Home. For memorial register please visit, www.hathawayfunerals.com.
