Is Voting a Responsibility?
Is Local Voting a Responsibility?
And is your Vote Important?
Voting is the primary way by which citizens influence collective decisions that shape community life & culture. Especially locally.
Will we be prosperous and a happy peaceful community?
The Leaders we vote for have a lot to do with how we are able to answer that question.
Will the leaders we vote for support putting equity back into the pockets of the people, and into our community, and actually know how to do that without self interest? Do they walk with the character of sincere integrity? Will they cave in weakness to a profiteers’s agenda?
Voting at the local level can be more important than voting for a president on a national level, because your local government directly affects YOU, right where you live.
Has everyone noticed there’s a lot of digging up of our streets past few years?
I’m sure everyone in Fairhaven is aware by now, that there’s a lot going on.
Are you taking part in influencing the direction the flow is currently going in, at least by getting to know the candidates and what they stand for. And then voting for them?
Lack of voting participation, and ignorance combined, can turn a once very happy community into a very sad one.
Are you aware we have some candidates who are pushing for multiple apartment complexes all THROUGH OUT Fairhaven?
There are others who prefer we focus on Home Ownership Initiatives. Building the Quaint Family Home that is affordable.
How would you feel if right next-door to YOU, they started building an apartment complex with between 70 to 120 people in them? With rents that start out affordable, to hook you, but then come with exorbitant rental increases? What?
There are some candidates who support this idea.
Voting is the sovereign power that allows us to exercise our own conscience in choosing between what is right and best, or what could be detrimental, for our own family life, as well as the cultural life around us. We are all affected in one way or another, by the community in which we live.
No matter how much some of us might want to mentally try, we cannot separate ourselves from the culture in which we live in. Voting helps RE-shape the culture and or preserve it.
Voting can make or break us financially on an individual and collective level.
Voting selects leaders and policies that will make laws and set priorities on your behalf.
Democracy depends on citizen involvement to function. Democracy is a form of government in which governing power is vested in the people.
Last year we had 2,300 people who voted, out of 13,456 who are registered to vote.
9,127 are registered as Independent/aka-unenrolled. Many of whom, did not vote.
Thousands of people did not vote. Which means our town is being led by a very small populous vote.
So, is voting YOUR responsibility? and is YOUR vote important?
Voting is your sovereign power.
