Fairhaven Does Not Need an Override
To the tax payers of Fairhaven. There is no need for an override this year!! The 500k buffer for the schools is not needed, by their own words they turn back money almost every year.
As the budget moved along the schools were 18k above Net School Spending (NSS). However, what they do not tell everyone is the State allows a 5% variance on NSS. So the schools can spend less than the State number up to 95% before any penalties passed down to the Town. If we reduce the school budget by .5% both the animal shelter, tourism and one position in BPW will be restored along with some overtime cut from Police and Fire.
The need for an override will come in fiscal 2028 and 2029 as the deficit then will be significantly larger. Enough is enough on overrides. We have choices to make, let’s not get fooled as this process moves forward.
