NFIA Egg Hunt draws hundreds

Approximately 400-500 children and their adults joined the fun at the annual egg hunt sponsored by the North Fairhaven Improvement Association on 4/4/26. The totally free event includes an egg hunt with 3,000 candy-filled plastic eggs; special prizes to those who find the 120 special wooden eggs; goodie bags; hot chocolate; raffle prizes, and hugs and pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Held at Livesey Park in North Fairhaven, the event designates certain areas of the park for different age groups so the little ones don’t get overrun by the big kids.

This year, as the NFIA’s Pauline Parker explained about the wooden eggs, a group of over-anxious youngsters headed to the playground, which jumpstarted the event. No problem, the NFIA is a flexible crowd.

The list of sponsors and donors to thank was extensive, with people donating baskets and gift certificates for the raffle, items for the wooden egg prizes, and candy.

The princesses helped, too, calling out raffle numbers, picking the numbers and handing out the prizes: Miss New Bedford, Deolinda “Dolly” Mendes; Miss New Bedford Teen, Addison Kohler; Jr. Miss Apple Peach, Elyza Wagner; Miss Apple Peach, Aubrey Sousa.

Ms. Parker made a point of asking everyone to pick up after themselves to keep their park clean. She noted that the event was accessible for people with mobility issues and read a statement about inclusion.

“Inclusion is about creating a world where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered, regardless of their background, identify or abilities. It means embracing diversity, fostering environments where all voices are heard, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to everyone.

“True inclusion goes beyond tolerance — it requires active participation, empathy, and a commitment to equity. When people feel included, they can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and help build stronger, more connected communities and that is exactly how we feel here at NFIA. We invite everyone of all abilities to participate in any program that we are supporting and our hope is that other organizations continue to do the same.”

The NFIA meets the third Thursday of the month at 267 Adams St., Fairhaven; email northfairhavenimprovement267@gmail.com or visit https://northfairhavenimprovementassoc.weebly.com

They are actively looking for volunteers and members to help with the events they sponsor every year.
