The Acushnet Lions Club filled up the Adams and Adams 12K (GVWR) big box truck with toys and food during their annual food/toy drive and motorcycle run at the Rivers End on 11/26/23. All food and toys went to the Shepherd’s Pantry where they will be distributed to the people who use the pantry on Saturday mornings.
Mark DeSilva, who owns the Rivers End Cafe, which hosts the event, said the Lions also donated $1500 in toys and food. Businesses and individuals gave money, food, and toys. The registration fee for each motorcycle rider was a donation of food or toys.
An anonymous donar gave 10 basketballs in memory of “B,” who loved sports.
Miss Apple Peach Kelsey Peters, and her little sister, Jr. Miss Apple Peach, Kailey Peters, helped out selling raffle tickets for the Lions and just cheering up the place. Everyone was treated to coffee and donuts inside the Rivers End.
The pantry serves nearly 200 families each Saturday, about double the number from just a few years ago.
Donations from the public are critical to the pantry’s ability to provide food to families.
To donate food, look for the bins at the Millicent Library (Walnut Street entrance), the Acushnet Public Library, and Stop & Shop in Fairhaven.

The pantry is always looking for volunteers.
