Mary Lou Nicholson of Be the Solution to Pollution, spoke to fifth grade students at East Fairhaven School on Thursday, 10/12/23, about her efforts to clean local beaches, reduce and eliminate plastic use and waste, and about her work for climate action.
The fifth grade classes have been studying about pollution in teacher Jennifer Perrotti’s Innovation class.
“Mary Lou was the perfect speaker,” wrote Ms. Perrotti in an email. “She was able to tell them about what she has witnessed at clean-ups right here in their hometown.”
Students prepared questions for her ahead of time and were very engaged and motivated by what they heard, said Ms. Perrotti.
“The kids and I hope to organize a clean up that the whole school could have the opportunity to attend,” wrote Ms. Perrottie.
Students had ideas for a school field trip to clean up in town, and some were thinking of inventions they could use to help with the plastics problem in the ocean.
