Oh, I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again because it’s worth repeating: This job is great because of all the great people I get to meet. This week, I got to meet Michael “Sully” Sullivan’s family. Sully was the police dispatcher we told you about back in March when the dispatch center was dedicated to him. This week, the signage was unveiled and his family members were there in force. They’re a great group, and I’m sure Sully was extremely proud of them. See page 13 for the story and some photos.
Our cover story was SUPER fun this year. I admit it: It’s way more fun when we win.
The kids played hard, on both sides. It was a good game, more challenging and better than the score might convey. There were lots of close calls, but the FHS kids held back their Dartmouth rivals for the win. See page 12 for that.
Oh, and, shall we talk about the bonfire the night before? Y’know how the fire department is always warning about fires and sparks and wind and all that? Well, point proven on Wednesday. Thd bonfire sparked a fire in one of the trees. I guess our chainsaw-happy tree warden missed one. It looked like the trunk was a bit hollow on the top where a piece had broken off, presumably in one of the big wind storms.
The little bugger of a fire was pretty stubborn, too. Firefighters doused it, but the little spark that could, just kept coming back.
So, let that be a lesson to all of us. Keep an eye on those sparks.
Well, this week was the week of Giving Tuesday, when, supposedly, people give money to their favorite causes.
Keep us in mind during this season of giving. We’re not a nonprofit (well, we’re not supposed to be), but we are a good cause, right? We need readers support alongside our advertisers. It’s the only model that is working for local newspapers. So, if you enjoy the paper, please consider financial support. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
Until next week then…see ya,
