Well, that snowstorm fizzled for us, but it was a doozy for anyone not on the coast. We had some pretty respectable wind and wind gusts, too. Trash day got pushed out one day, so everyone had their bins out. They got knocked over, covers got blown open, stuff was flying everywhere.
But, we didn’t have to shovel.
On the other hand, we didn’t get to have any snow fun, either.
Don’t worry. There’s still plenty of winter left.
The Rogers School reuse projecte has a serious bidder. A local developer wants to build housing there. See page 12 for details. The project still has a lot of steps to go through, but this developer is starting to work his way through the process.
Meanwhile, the Oxford School project, that’s supposed to break ground in the spring, has suddenly come forth with a significant design change. We don’t have that yet. They were slated to in front of the Zoning Board of Appeals this week, too late for press time. We’ll have that for you next week.
On a sadder note, former New Bedford mayor Fred Kalisz died this week from COVID-19 complications. He was 63. Freddie and I were in grammar school and high school. We were in a few classes together, and we always maintained a friendly relationship. It’s heartbreaking what this virus is doing to our communities. Fred was taken way too young from his family, and especially his son. See the statement from NB Mayor Jon Mitchell on page 8.
Fred left his mark on the city, and by extension, all of us. He did his best, and that’s all we can ask of anyone. My heartfelt condolences go to this family and his entire Polish community in New Bedford, to which he was very devoted.
On a lighter note, “The Magazine,” a relatively new community access show, interviewed me for their latest episode. Apparently, I’m an interesting character. Who knew? See page 5 for how to access that.
There’s lots of other good stuff in here, of course. Please take a look at each page and be sure to note who our advertisers are so you can tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News.
Until next week then…see ya (from a distance),
