Your Theatre, Inc. director Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. of New Bedford has cast several Southcoast area actors in the comedic spoof of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 thriller The 39 Steps by John Buchan and adapted by Patrick Barlow, the opening major attraction of YTI’s 73rd season.
Madcap spoof of Hitchcock’s 1935 thriller! The play is presented with only four actors portraying more than 150 characters, sometimes changing roles in the blink of an eye! We follow the bored Richard Hannay, on holiday in London, who meets a mysterious woman who says she’s a spy. When she is murdered in his flat and he is accused, Hannay sets out to uncover the meaning of the “39 Steps,” a secret she spoke of with her dying breath. Hannay, unsure of whom he can trust, crisscrosses England and Scotland on a thrilling adventure involving “train chases, plane crashes, shadowy murders, beautiful spies, trilbied heavies, dastardly villains” and of course love, as he races against time to save England and the world.
