Characters:
JACKIE: (Female, 20-29) Stayed home to care for her dying mother, while her older, half-sister left them behind; has in her possession an old family heirloom –a stamp collection– which she is eager to sell; feels she is owed compensation for the care she provided to her mother, but she also wants the money. She’s bruised, yet head-strong. She’s feisty, yet jaded. She’s passionate, yet troubled.
MARY: (Female, 30-39) Returned home following her mother’s death, to reconnect with her younger, estranged, half-sister, and to claim an old family heirloom — a stamp collection which has strong sentimental value for her; believes the stamps are hers and she is not willing to part with them. She’s genteel, yet guilt-ridden. She’s smart, yet naive. She avoids conflict, but she’s stubborn.
DENNIS: (Male, 20-29) A young hustler, always has a deal in the works or is planning one; has his sights on Jackie’s stamps, and is counting on his two friends Sterling, who he works for, and Philip to help him get them. Sees himself as a charmer who can convince Jackie to trust him. Just smart enough to get himself in trouble.
STERLING (Male, 40-49) Usually has money, or knows how to get his hands on it, wiling to pay premium price for the stamps, but has no patience with the games that are being played by the others involved in the negotiations; a cool customer who is willing to use a little force if necessary. He’s used to getting his way.
PHILIP (Male, 60-69) Stamp shop owner who has bought and sold stamps for years. He’s heard it all and seen it all and doesn’t believe most of it, only interested in his fee; knows all there is to know about stamps, can’t be fooled and is all business. Life-worn and jaded. Socially awkward and blunt. A loner.
This suspenseful thriller centers on stamp collecting, which may be far more risky than you think. After their mother’s death, two estranged half-sisters discover a book of rare stamps that may include the crown jewel for collectors. One sister tries to collect on the windfall, while the other resists for sentimental reasons. In this gripping tale, a seemingly simple sale becomes dangerous when three seedy, high-stakes collectors enter the sisters’ world, willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.
Experience is not necessary; just the desire to participate and share the experience of live theatre and the enjoyment of collaborating with other talented individuals.
