YAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA: Follow the Halloween Trail…if you dare

These two charming fellows just may greet you if you dare to follow the Halloween Trail to Halloween Horrors on Alden Road in Fairhaven. See page 16 if you think you can handle these guys and quite a few more on this year’s trail of terror. YAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Halloween is Wednesday, 10/31
By Beth David, Editor
Welcome to our 13th annual Halloween Trail.
We have 15 Halloween events and haunts to tell you about this year. We have a mix of houses and other haunted happenings to share with you this year.
No doubt there are other haunted houses that will welcome you on Halloween, but we only include the ones we know for sure want to be included on the trial.
Still, if there is a house out there with great decorations, you know they are just waiting to scare the bejeebers out of you. So, don’t be shy. If you see a lot of decorations, get over there with your bag. If the yard is decorated, you know they want you to stop and gawk, so feel free to do so.
As usual, we’ve collected the list of addresses from a variety of sources, and, of course, we could not have done it without Manny of Ole Oxford Haunt. Our own hometown Halloween celebrities, Manny and family are getting the old haunt back up to speed after a year of scaled down handiwork. Manny is still identifying Ole Oxford as a decorated yard, not a full-fledge haunt, but he is hinting (very strongly) that he’ll back in full form next year.
Meanwhile, I promise he will not disappoint you.
We tried to make this a logical geographical trail. We begin in North Fairhaven and move south from there, but, of course, this is America, land of the free and home of the car lovers, so feel free to visit any which way you want to. Just…get there! Thanks to all who sent in yards and helped out with pictures.
Enjoy your tour of the real Halloweentown….. yahahahahahaha.

70 Oliver St., Fairhaven
1: 70 Oliver Street Back for the fourth year and ready this weekend for your viewing pleasure (“pleasure” being a relative term, of course). This year the haunt has doubled in size. This year is a little “extra special.” They will hold a bake sale on both weekends to raise money for Boston Children’s Hospital. BCH has proven to be important to their family as their 10-year-old was diagnosed with a thyroid disease. To learn more and to donate to the cause, you can visit
http://fundraise.childrenshospital.org/site/TR?px=1652189&fr_id=1660&pg=personal
On Fri. & Sat., this weekend and next (10/19, 20, 26, 27), there will be live ghoulies to scare you, so be prepared.
Be sure to wait for dark before you go

Halloween Horror, chain saw maniac. Photo by Beth David.
2: 189 Alden Road. Halloween Horror, at Roxann’s Garden Center. This is really spooky stuff, so be careful if you’re a chicken at heart and just trying to show off. Features about a 20-minute walk-through, with tour guides, scary music, lots of moving monsters, goblins, creepy crawlers, and things that touch you.
Donations are accepted at the end but NOT required. Money goes to make it better and better each year.
Every year they add something new, so if you think you know what’s happening here, think again.

60 Oxford St., Fairhaven. Submitted photo
3: 60 Oxford St., Although scaled down from past years, Manny’s handiwork will still set your spine to shivering. Every piece of his display is made, not bought. No walk through, but a lot of spooky kooks in the front yard. Manny and his creepy crew will gladly accept donations for the American Cancer Society. OPEN: Now through Oct. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m.

127 Laurel St., Fairhaven. Submitted photo.
4: 127 Laurel Street. Head to the center of town, where we KNOW there are other places that are spooky. It’s a veritable Little Salem out there on Halloween night, with all kinds of ghouls and goblins running around. When you arrive at our spooky looking Town Hall area, be sure to find 127 Laurel Street, where the wolf man will try to find YOU! Even if you go on the weekend (they are up and running now), be sure to go by on Halloween night to see special things that are only put out then.

20 Hiller Ave., Fairhaven. Submitted photo.
5: 20 Hiller Ave. Now you’re heading up Sconticut Neck Road to Hiller Avenue. They will be ready for you this weekend, but be sure to go on Halloween night. They add some stuff that only goes out on that one night. They were disappointed in the turnout last year, so let’s see if we can get a better showing this year so they wish they bought MORE candy, not less.
Let’s show her that Fairhaven has Halloween Spirit like no other place! Submitted photo.

6: 41 Bayview. Now, before you head to West Island, scoot around to Bayview Avenue. We still don’t have any pictures of this one, but we’re sure it’s worth the trip. There’s a tunnel, and spooky stuff outside and inside, if you dare to go inside. TWO NIGHTS ONLY: Sat., 10/27 and Halloween night, 10/31, 6:30–9:30 p.m. both nights. Admission is free, but, we’re sad (and mortified to report), that half their decorations were stolen last year, so they will gladly accept donations to help them restock.

161 Dogwood St., Fairhaven. Photo by Beth David.
7: 161 Dogwood St. Now continue down Sconticut Neck Road and enjoy a few splendidly decorated yards along the way. Take the left onto Goulart Memorial Drive and head for my place on West Island, but before you get there, right on my block, welcome the newbies in the Neighborhood across the street and up one house from mine. It’s not the biggest space, but they have definitely made good use of it. I have NOOOO idea what’s in store over there for the big night, so be prepared. They seem pretty darned enthusiastic, so, nothing would surprise me.

166 Dogwood St., Fairhaven. Photo by Beth David.
8: 166 Dogwood St. Now cross the street and walk a few paces to my place on West Island. I’m afraid that I’ll probably be setting up on Halloween Day just for the one night this year. I haven’t heard from the Screaming Banshees yet, but you never know. We can promise dead things, noises in the fog, and a cauldron full of boiling candy. Beth David photo.
Acushnet
We have two Acushnet stops this year, but we’re quite sure there are more places to be scaried by our neighbors to the north.

8 Beech St., Acushnet. Photo by Beth David.
9: 8 Beech St, Acushnet. This elaborate yard goes on forever and is best seen at night. You’ll want to visit it more than once because they add new stuff all the time. You just never know what you’ll find. This yard has been ready for weeks, so you know these guys are serious! Beth David photos.

17 Myrtle St., Acushnet. Submitted photo.
10: 17 Myrtle Ave., Acushnet. These guys have been at it for 18 years! This year’s donations will go to the Team Noah Foundation. Open the evening BEFORE Halloween, Tues. 10/30 ONLY, from 6–9:30 p.m. Submitted photo.
