A talk and slide presentation by Don Carlos Collasius will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Fairhaven Town Hall Auditorium, 40 Center St., Fairhaven, at no charge. Don is the current Tree Warden in town and has a deep appreciation for our Earth, both on land and in water.
From 1981 to 1988, he worked for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in the Deep Submergence Group, which operates the research vessel, ALVIN, a 3 person mini sub, tasked with exploring some of the world’s deepest, darkest and coldest places.
During his 100 dives in the submersible as “Pilot in Command”, Don visited many bizarre geological features and life forms. He will recount some of those dives as well as present a broad picture of what it takes to get a submersible safely down to 4,000 meters deep and back again.
The talk will begin and end with current information about the Fairhaven Tree Department’s endeavors to sustain the beauty and heath of its trees, and how our town citizens can support him to maintain those trees that are so much a part of the historic aesthetics of our town.
