Fairhaven Firefighters mixed it up with staff from the LL Wood School for a contest of agility and fun last month. The two groups created mixed teams to play a few dodgeball games to benefit Toys for Tots last month. After a few games, the Wood School staff challenged the firefighters to a game.
“It was very intimidating to have the FF throwing the balls at us!” wrote Kimberly Katz, first grade teacher at Wood, in an email.
And, the Wood School staff won.
“It was our first win in all the games that we have ever challenged them to,” wrote Ms. Katz.
Families were asked to take a new, unwrapped toy with them to the game. For every toy donated, a raffle ticket was given for a chance to win lunch for a student and five friends, with the firefighters. Two names were picked, so 12 students will have a pizza party with the firefighters.
“It was an amazing feeling and sight to see,” wrote Ms. Katz. “We collected many many toys!”
The school has had two successful joint fund-raising events with firefighters this year. In November of 2107, they two groups competed in a kickball game and raised hundreds of dollars for the Help Save Foundation. The group raises funds to help disadvantaged children with food and access to education and other services. Visit http://www. thehelpsavefoundation.org/
