Adaptive Fish Derby
On June 21st, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the Fairhaven Rec Center and the state will host an adaptive fishing derby at Hoppy’s Landing, 55 Goulart Memorial Dr., Fairhaven. This event is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of fishing experience. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or new to the sport, everyone is encouraged to attend!
In our efforts to ensure accessibility, we will provide adaptive fishing gear to assist those who may need support with casting, reeling, or holding the rod. Additionally, we will have access trax matting and a beach wheelchair available to ensure that individuals with mobility challenges can fully participate and enjoy the experience by the water’s edge.
Furthermore, representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries will be present to offer guidance to novice anglers, as well as share insights into marine life and the various fish species that may be encountered.
Participants will be categorized into two age divisions–Youth and Adult (16+).
We anticipate a delightful afternoon filled with fishing, camaraderie, and food and refreshments.
