Volunteers in the United States hold up the foundation of civil society. They help their neighbors, serve their communities, and provide their expertise. No matter what kind of work they do, volunteers contribute in invaluable ways. In Fiscal Year 2023, nearly 123,000 volunteers donated more than 3.7 million hours of service across the National Park Service. The most current value of a volunteer hour has been estimated at $31.80. These 123,000 volunteers offered a value of over $119 million of time and expertise to the Mission of the National Park Service!
There are many benefits to volunteering with the National Park Service such as after 250 hours of volunteer service, you may be awarded a free pass for two years to National Parks across the nation! Your volunteer service hours can be counted as hours worked and experience gained, toward any position applied for with the federal government.
