Press Release
Greater New Bedford Voc Tech seniors Jack Ostiguy and Kerstin Trahan in the Engineering Technology program were recognized at the state level vocational awards. Jack Ostiguy was selected for the Massachusetts Vocational Association’s (MVA) and the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrations’ (MAVA) annual outstanding student award.
Both the Academic Excellence and the Trade Excellence award was given to him in his freshman year. Jack has also received high honors for all four years of his high school experience. He held the position of class president for the 2018-2019 school year and is currently Vice President of Community Service for National Honor Society.
At SkillsUSA, a career and technical student organization, Jack represented GNB Voc-Tech in the Robotic Automation competition. Being a proud Scout of Troop 24 New Bedford, he is currently preparing his qualifications for Eagle Scout rank.
Kerstin Trahan was selected for MVA’s Non-Traditional Student Award. Kerstin is a SkillsUSA national champion, and a future United States Naval Aviator. As a senior, Kerstin displays her dedication through her participation in various AP and Honors classes
as well as membership with GNBVT’s National Honor Society. Not only is she involved heavily in her academic courses, but she also has a passion for her career technical area, Engineering Technology. One of her favorite things about Engineering is it allows her to showcase her ability to design new and unique prototypes that can function. For Kerstin, seeing her designs come to life has to be one of her most rewarding experiences at Voc-Tech.
One of her personal goals for life after high school is to enlist in the US Navy in order to work on the electrical components for naval aircrafts. Once finishing her service, Kerstin aspires to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology and eventually obtain a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. After her schooling is completed, her main career goal is to be able to work at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) creating rockets.
Congratulations to Jack and Kerstin on receiving these prestigious awards.
