Turkey Trot and Football for Thanksgiving

November 20, 2018 by Staff Writer

By Beth David, Editor

Since 2010, the Fairhaven Turkey Trot, held on Thanksgiving Day, has raised over $80,000 and collected hundreds of pounds of canned goods to support local food pantries. Last year, Turkey Trot runners and families donated over 2,000 pounds of non-perishable items to The

Shepherd’s Pantry!

Race gather time is 7:50 a.m. at the Flagpole at Cushman Park for brief announcements, a thank-you from Shepherd’s Pantry and the Star-Spangled Banner performed by former Miss Mass. Jillian Zucco.

Race begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Route

You’ll start on Green Street at Cushman Park (at the flagpole) and will head straight down Green to Fort Phoenix. You’ll head up Fort St., past the marina and a water stop, to Main St via Center Street. You’ll go right on Bridge St. to Mulberry St. to loop back to the Cushman Park track for a strong finish!

Fairhaven Police will staff major intersections while Trot volunteers marshal minor crossings.

Thanksgiving morning is usually pretty COLD! So, layer up and plan to be outside for a few minutes before the Trot to pick-up your number.

New registrations will be taken on Thursday, 11/22 from 7:00am-7:45am $25. Age 12 and under, always $10

At the SMEC Building, 56 Bridge Street, Fairhaven (cash or check only)

Parking is available on surrounding streets, in the bank parking lots on Route 6, and in a small parking lot for Cushman Park. Please be courteous and do not block residents’ driveways or access

Stuff-A-Truck

Bring your canned goods and non-perishable items on race day. When you bring your canned goods to the truck, you are welcome to fill out a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the prizes!

Thank you for your generous donations which help to keep The Shepherd’s Pantry shelves stocked for the local families in need. Every donation is appreciated!

Post-Race Gathering

After the 5K, visit Rasputin’s Tavern for hot coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and good times while you stretch and thaw-out in the toasty space. Join us at 122 Main Street, about two blocks from the Finish Line! Big thanks in 2018 to Rasputin’s Tavern for hosting, once again, this year’s After-Trot Fest!

Thanksgiving Day Game

The Fairhaven High School Blue Devils Football team will face the Dartmouth Indians at Dartmouth Middle School Football Field, on Thanksgiving Day, Thurs., 11/22, at 10 a.m. Go cheer on your home town team! Don’t forget the BONFIRE on Wed. night at Cushman Park at 5:30. (I know, I know, this is a Thursday sheet, but we’re actually distributing on Wednes-day this week, so….)
