Press Release, by Ellen Flynn
Thank you all for sharing your time on the cold Saturday Morning, February 22, 2025 to celebrate Black History Month with our MLT/TTAR StoryWalk at Munro Property and reception at the Mattapoisett Museum..
This year marks the third year that the Mattapoisett Land Trust collaborated with Tri Town Against Racism for this event and this year the Mattapoisett Museum also welcomed us.
We were thrilled to have Connnor Gaudet, Curator of the Museum; Mike Huguenin, President of the MLT; John Santos, Board member of TTAR for Business and Partnerships; and Moise Saint Louis, PhD, Assistant Dean, Lecturer, and Director of the Frederick Douglass Unity House at UMASS, Dartmouth, who is a Mattapoisett resident with three children in our Old Rochester School District; all offering enlightening remarks.
When I looked out into the audience at the Museum, I saw multi-generations from a young child, to teenagers, young parents, middle aged adults, and seniors.
We had the Tri Town represented plus Fairhaven all thinking of “hope”, as Dr. Mo offered us in his remarks, reminding us of Barack Obama’s Acceptance speech of “Yes we Can”.
It was a wonderful day. I look forward to more open dialog in the near future.
