Some of the stuff was pretty outdted, like VHS tapes and and old TVs; but some of it had people eager to buy it, like some bicycles. By far, though, the potential deals on big equipment, like trash pumps, and vehicles were the big draw for the spenders at annual town auction on Saturday, 9/15/18, at the public works department in Fairhaven.

Selectboard member Charles K. Murphy, Sr., played auctioneer, often exclaiming, “They’re killing me,” as he tried to sell such dismal items as an assortment of old ink from town hall, and a couple of computer stands for the car from the police department. Still, in the end, most of the stuff went, albeit for one or two dollars, and netted the town $6,498, total, thanks mostly to a couple of vehicles that broke the $1,000 mark.
The biggest sale of the day was a 20002 Ford F450 Box Truck, that went for $2900.000 to Billy Monteiro. The next in line was a 1999 Ford F350 Superduy truck that sold for $1250 to Fernando Coelho.
Other good buys, and those of good faith can argue which was the best, included a working Toro 4000 Winged Mower that went for $800 to Robert Morse; and a pair of two-inch portable centrifugal trash pumps with gas engines that sold for $41, for the pair, to Wayne Morse.

This 1999 Starcraft Travel Camper, complete with dirty dishes in the sink, sold for $80 to Al Martin, who just retired. “Hopefully, the grandkids will stay young long enough till I can get it done.” The camper was abandoned by its owner and turned over by the police department for sale the annual auction in Fairhaven on 9/15/18. Some stuff will be headed for the dumpster, as no one wanted it at all, including an old computer table, and a couple of old TVs.
A couple of child car seats also had to be abandoned to the trash because they were past their
expiration date.
The auction is held annual in the fall and includes items declared surplus by departments in town as they upgrade or replace aging equipment. Items also include abandoned or confiscated items obtained by the Police Department.
