Tax season is still months away, but the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is already busy recruiting volunteers for the 2026 tax season. AARP is the largest of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs in the nation, both IRS-supported initiatives.
Volunteer tax preparers work directly with clients to prepare and file returns. No previous tax experience is required because volunteers receive extensive training, culminating in IRS certification.
