Disaster at Sea: Larchmont Remembered, Wed., 11/16, 6:30-7:30 PM, Millicent Library Auditorium, 45 Center St., Fairhaven, Walnut Street entrance.
Join Daniel F. Harrington as he presents The Larchmont Remembered: The Suffering, Depravity, and Wonder of Rhode Island’s Most Horrific Sea Disaster. This gripping tale recounts the night the Larchmont, a wooden side-wheel steamship, collided with the Harry Knowlton, a three-masted schooner, off Block Island in zero-degree weather. Using digitally restored photos and eyewitness accounts, Harrington covers the unforgettable stories of survival, panic, and miracles that followed.
Daniel Harrington, Director of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame and a columnist for the Providence Journal, will guide us through this tragic chapter of local history.
