Sgt. Mike Bouvier retires from Fairhaven PD

Sergeant Michael Bouvier officially retired from the Fairhaven Police Department and was honored at a ceremony at the station on Friday, 2/6/26. Family, friends, fellow police department personnel and others gathered to see Sgt. Bouvier off into retired life.

“Congratulations Sgt. Mike Bouvier on your retirement from the Fairhaven Police Department after 30 years of dedicated and exemplary service to Fairhaven and the Greater New Bedford community,” wrote state Rep. Mark Sylvia on his Facebook page, after attending the event.

“Mike, we wish you a happy, healthy, and long retirement and thank you for your service to the Town of Fairhaven and our Country!!” wrote the Fairhaven Police Depart.-ment on its Facebook page.

At the Select Board meeting on 2/9/6, Town Administrator, Keith Hickey, noted that Sgt. Bouvier dedicated 30 years of “distinguished service” to the Fairhaven PD, “build­ing a career defined by leadership, mentorship, and community-centered policing.”

He said Sgt. Bouvier supervised and led dozens of officers, providing “guidance, accountability, and pro­fessional development while setting high standards for performance and integrity.”

Sgt. Bouvier also served as the School Resource Officer and created one of the first community outreach units in the region.

“His career reflects a deep commit­ment to service, collaboration, and improving the quality of life for the Fairhaven community,” said Mr. Hickey.

Sgt. Bouvier also served as a Marine, and has dedicated years of service to supporting individuals with disabilities.

“Thank you Sgt. Bouvier for all that you have done for us in order to keep us safe and healthy,” wrote Rep. Sylvia. “You will be missed!”
