As part of our upcoming third Annual Serve-A-Thon, for the benefit of the Salvation Army and Mobile Ministries, we will honor what the founder of the Salvation Army said back in the late 1800’s to those who complained to him about the homelessness and despairing situation that surrounded them.
General William Booth boldly said, “DO SOMETHING!”
With that command, thinking of others, transforming lives, and bringing hope has been the Salvation Army’s International definition of “do something” for over 152 years.
In addition to the service and treasure chest projects that we will be doing, an area Do Something! “Cheering Squad” will also be recruited.
Each participant will hold an approved sign with an encouraging message for those passing by, gather pre-arranged financial sponsors, and serve a timed shift at an approved location. All proceeds from this “cheering our local communities” component will go toward our Serve-A-Thon total.
This year’s Serve-A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017. A number of organizational and public orientation meetings will be held at the Salvation Army facility at 619 Purchase Street, in New Bedford beginning on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Those interested in learning more and to DO SOMETHING! to help are welcome to attend.
