Please join us for New Bedford Science Café on Tues., 5/3, from 6– 8p.m.. at The Vault Music Hall & Pub, 791 Purchase St., New Bedford
Open to everyone. Free, save for the beer! No registration necessary.
Our guest, ecologist/lawyer/ whistleblower Kyla Bennett, will address “Aerial Spraying: Ineffectual and Costly to the Environment.” Massachusetts’ spraying program, meant to curb cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), is more dangerous than effective, maintains Kyla. Dispersed chemicals— sumithrin, PBO, and PFAS—can be highly toxic to humans, pets, birds, fish, bees & many insects. Instead of ground/or aerial spraying, Kyla advocates eliminating stagnant breeding waters, using less toxic sprays and other larva-halting measures. “In the spirit of Rachel Carson, we should rule out methods that barrage our world with poisonous chemicals,” notes Kyla, Director of Public Policy for PEER (Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility).
Note that when New Bedford Cable covers our events, links to videos can be found on our website. We ask those who join us to be vaccinated. Facemasks strongly recommended.
