Fairhaven Dollars for Scholars chapter is a nonprofit foundation that supports academic success in our community. As part of Scholarship America’s national network of locally based, volunteer-driven Dollars for Scholars chapters, our mission is to mobilize our community on behalf of postsecondary education success for our students.

Fairhaven Historical Society

For over 50 years, the Fairhaven Historical Society has been at the forefront of preserving the legacy of our community. We are committed to researching and preserving historically important sites, monuments, documents and artifacts and sharing the information with everyone interested in our area’s past. Our goal is to ensure that the history and traditions of Fairhaven are made accessible and celebrated for generations to come. Come visit us at our museum and step back in time to explore the rich history of our community!

The annual Enrique Goytizolo Scholarship is a $1500 scholarship for a Fairhaven resident high school graduating senior interested in studying history.

The scholarship is awarded by the Fairhaven Historical Society and honors Enrique Goytizolo’s dedication to preserving the history of the Town of Fairhaven and his vital and long-time leadership role with the Fairhaven Historical Society.

The Enrique Goytizolo Scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior whose primary residence is in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Students who apply should be interested in pursuing the study of history and have plans to matriculate to an accredited institution of higher learning in the fall. Check with your school guidance counselor for an application form. Point of contact at the Historical Society is Rick Martin (817) 689-9944.

Deadline for scholarship applications is April 1st.

Azorean Heritage Society

Founded in 1997, the mission of the Azorean Maritime Heritage Society (AMHS) is to promote Azorean culture and whaling heritage by raising awareness and pride in our community. This rich maritime heritage has been shared on both sides of the Atlantic between the Azores and the Greater New Bedford area for more than 150 years.

This year AMHS has designated seven scholarships to be awarded to high school seniors or first time freshman applicants who will be enrolled in an undergraduate college program or an accredited trade school during the next academic year. As a New Bedford based organization, we strongly encourage New Bedford students to apply, but the scholarship is available for all students to apply.

Deadline is April 1.

Visit https://azoreanmaritimeheritagesociety.wildapricot.org for more information and to download the application.
