Save Our Shorebirds is Back! And with it…the Piping Plovers have returned to West Island Town Beach.
The Fairhaven Sustainability Committee, working with The Lloyd Center for the Environment, is looking to help grow the vanishing flock with a Save Our Shorebirds PR campaign and onsite signage and fencing.
Four new nests have been found on the beach. The problem is protecting them to hatch and grow up. Just recently two of these nests have been lost to due predators.
These small fluffy shore birds are endangered. They and their nests are easy prey for fox and coyote. However the most observed predator is a dog off leash.
Have a great summer and please accept our appreciation for your help to save our shorebirds.
