So, what is a Serve-A-Thon?
People are familiar with a walk-a-thon: Individuals walk a distance and others sponsor them. In our upcoming Salvation Army and Mobile Ministries fund-raising Serve-A-Thon, individuals don’t just walk, they go somewhere to serve, and others sponsor them financially to do so. There are no administrative costs. All proceeds go to the two groups.
On September 9th, we have four project sites: A fence to paint in New Bedford, a veteran field to spruce up in Fairhaven, toys and clothes to sort in Acushnet, and crops to harvest in Dartmouth.
We also have what we call a Treasure Chest opportunity where individuals or groups can fund-raise using their creative gifts and talents.
For Example: A sponsored sky-diving adventurer, a swimmer swimming laps, a motorcyclist on a 900+ mile ride, a runner running 20 miles, a group of road cyclists on a 50 mile round-trip bike ride, and a number of people playing the role of a cheerleader.
In addition, there is a super quality talent show, a community yard/ antique/craft/bake sale, and an independent fund-raising benefit hosted by a local restaurant.
We need your heart and help to make an even greater impact on our community and to Do Something Good…For Others.
If interested in joining our effort and to let your gifts and talents shine, please come to our Public Information Meeting at the Salvation Army facility at 619 Purchase St. in New Bedford on Thursday, July 27th from 6:00–7:30 pm and sign up! A cookout to follow. For more: http://www.lift-in-love.org/ Face Book: Lift-in-Love; or call the Salvation Army at 508-997-6561 and ask for Major BethEllen Parkhurst.
