Police take it in annual Guns n Hoses softball showdown

August 13, 2025 by Staff Writer

By Beth David, Editor

The third annual battle of the badges softball game in Acushnet, dubbed Guns ’n Hoses, ended with a win by police over the fire department, 40-23.

“The Police Department took the title once more due to their teamwork and athleticism!” wrote the town on its Facebook page. “The Fire Department gave them a good lead to come back from. Granted, the Fire Department had a large fire to fight just a few hours before the game started!”

The annual face-off is a charity event with proceeds benefiting the two associations and a charity of the winning team’s choice.

“Kudos to both teams for continuously serving our community to keep us safe and holding wonderful events like this to raise money for charitable causes,” reads the FB post. “It was a great game and a great success! We cannot wait to see what we will have in store for next year!”
