Police Departments and Tremblay’s to “fill the bus” for Hurricane relief

Local police departments, including Acushnet, Dartmouth Fairhaven and New Bedford, are teaming up with Tremblay’s Bus, Safe Zones and Neighborhoods United to “Fill the Bus” for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

This Saturday, 9/9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the three police departments, among others, will be accepting donations of non-perishable items. The buses will take the items to Texas.

Only NEW items are sought, including water, flashlights, batteries and cleaning supplies. NO clothing, stuffed animals, bedding, perish­ables, please.

Items needed include

Gallons and cases of water, first aid kits, fog horns, moving boxes, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, diapers, baby wipes, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, nonperishable food including baby formula, baby food, koolaid, new blankets, can openers, tents, de-hydrated food that can be prepared with hot water or powdered milk, dog and cat food (dry only), foam cups, plates, paper towels, napkins, plastic forks, spoons and knives, bleach; sll different types of cleaning products including, rags, mops brooms, shovels, plastic, bags, heavy, duty, garbage, barrels, rakes, shovels, etc.; charcoal, matches, lighters and grills that can be used with charcoal

The only clothing items at this time are packs of NEW ONLY PLEASE underwear, socks, blankets (new in package)

Also requested are solar powered outdoor lights used around the yard (can also be used for inside of the homes without electricity at night and then recharged during the day, also reduces fire hazards); smoke detectors along with fire extinguishers for the home; all types of batteries

Just drop by any of the following police stations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, 9/9. Please do NOT drop off items before or after Saturday, as departments have no where to store items. (See page 5 for other places to donate if you cannot make it on Saturday.)

• Fairhaven police station: 1 Bryant Lane (corner of Washington Street),

• New Bedford Police: 871 Rockdale Avenue
