Palmer Island Cleanup

June 10, 2026 by Staff Writer

Sat., 6/13, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., meet at the bottom of Gifford St., New Bedford. Wear closed-toed shoes. Gloves, pickers and bags provided.

Six-cre Palmers Island, located on the Acushnet River on the west side of the entrance to New Bedford Harbor, has been the scene of great heroism and tragedy. The lighthouse was once considered one of New England’s most picturesque.

Palmers Island is now home to a local park, and offers beach access in need of some TLC: Trash & Litter Control.

Many volunteers are needed to make Palmer’s Island the picturesque island nature intended it to be.
