The weekend’s hot weather did not stop feast goers from enjoying the 93rd annual Our Lady of Angels Feast on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It was possibly the best turnout ever, with packed crowds day and night, dancing to the music and enjoying Portuguese and American foods.
On Sunday night food items sold out, with pizza and hamburgers gone early, and the last batch of malasadas made at about 8:45 p.m.
The procession on Monday, when members of the OLOA Catholic Association carry the approximately 800-pound statue of Our Lady of Angels down Main Street, drew a large crowd along the whole route. The procession started at St. Mary’s Church, which is across the street from the feast grounds, to Benoit Square and back.
Armindo and Michelle were enjoying some fresh malasadas just before the procession started. They said they go to the feast every year, and wait in line for the malasadas, which are worth it.
Michelle said her favorite part of the feast is always the malasadas, while Armindo said he liked the procession best.
“I always come, and I love it,” said Adelaide Ventura, adding that the procession is tradition.
“People are filled with religion,” said Ms. Ventura, adding that she likes the procession best, and is always prepared with a water bottle on hot days.
“There’s a lot of people,” she said, pointing to the crowd waiting for the procession to start. “I love the food. The food is very good.”
She said she had gotten her malasadas the night before and they did not disappoint.
